Every year, Kazakhstan’s need for qualified engineers, technicians, designers, and skilled workers continues to grow. In this context, many enterprises of the defense-industrial complex have taken on an important social mission — to familiarize schoolchildren and students with real production environments, modern technologies, and opportunities for professional development. Today, career guidance tours have become one of the most effective tools for helping young people make informed career choices.
Kazakhstan Engineering National Company JSC places great emphasis on developing future personnel and is ready to cooperate with educational institutions to share practical experience with future specialists. The Company pursues a policy of promoting technical professions and aims to cultivate talent by supporting students already at the stage of their formal education.
For instance, Semey Engineering JSC annually conducts introductory tours and Open House Days aimed at promoting engineering and technical professions. This year, the enterprise has already been visited by students of the State Communal Government Enterprise “College of Transport,” the State Communal Government Enterprise “Polytechnic College,” schoolchildren of Secondary School No. 29 “Palmira,” students of the Nazarbayev Intellectual School in Semey, as well as students of Shakarim University.
Young visitors had the opportunity to observe real production processes, assess the prospects of the industry, and ask questions to the company’s employees.
R&D Center Kazakhstan Engineering LLP also makes a significant contribution to career guidance activities. In the Year of Skilled Professions, the Center held several specialized events. The Center welcomed first-year students of the Higher College of Kazpotrebsoyuz. The students learned about the enterprise’s scientific and industrial activities, explored developments in unmanned technologies, robotic systems, and innovative products of the defense-industrial complex.
In addition, the Center organized a tour for specialists of the Academy of Management of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The guests were shown equipment samples and discussed potential applications for national security, monitoring, and rapid response. Special attention was given to dual-use technologies.
In mid-October, the enterprise hosted ninth-grade students of a lyceum school. For many of them, the tour became their first opportunity to see engineering and design professions from the inside. Such activities allow schoolchildren to evaluate the prospects of technical education in advance and foster their interest in engineering sciences.
In Petropavlovsk, S.M. Kirov Plant JSC cooperates with the Academy of the National Guard of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The plant hosts practical training sessions for cadets studying in the “Command and Tactical Communications” specialty. Integrating theory with real production helps future officers better understand the specifics of communication and control systems.
In addition, the plant welcomed students of M. Kozybayev North Kazakhstan University. Future engineers became acquainted with the production of printed circuit boards, secure communications systems, digital television technologies, and ZIKComputers products.
Petropavlovsk Heavy Engineering Plant JSC (PZTM) remains one of the most active enterprises in career guidance work. The plant regularly hosts tours for college students and schoolchildren of Petropavlovsk. Thanks to the dual education program, which has been operating since 2012, many students undergo practical training directly at the workplace, receive mentorship, and may be employed immediately after certification. Many current employees of the plant began their careers through such internships.
PZTM JSC also receives groups of ninth-grade school students. Visitors tour the plant museum, where they learn about the enterprise’s history, and then proceed to the production areas to see modern mechanical engineering technologies and the process of manufacturing components for drilling rigs.
Throughout the year, the companies of the Holding actively participate in job fairs organized by the country’s leading universities, including L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, K. Satbayev Kazakh National Research Technical University, M. Narikbayev Kazakh State Law University, among others, thereby strengthening the link between employers and future specialists.
Tours, meetings, and job fairs offer students and schoolchildren the opportunity to see real production environments, understand the specifics of professional activities, and ask any questions — about technology, working conditions, or career prospects. This helps them make informed career choices based on personal experience rather than abstract ideas.
Moreover, activities aimed at raising awareness of industrial professions help foster interest in engineering and skilled trades and allow the younger generation to envision their future in the country’s industrial sector.
For these reasons, the career guidance initiatives led by enterprises are becoming an essential part of developing the specialists who will create new technologies and strengthen the nation’s industrial sovereignty.
